First meeting: January 18th, 2011

Good Evening fellow UCF Nonprofit Management Student Association members! We just had our first Spring 2011 meeting and there are a lot of new implications taking place that we should all be very excited about. Furthermore I’d like to welcome all the new members; we look forward to all of your contribution. Feel free to ask any of the 2nd and 3rd semester student or any of the officers any questions you may have, we’d be more than willing to answer them.
This BLOGSPOT will be the “go-to” communication forum for association members. This will include our calendar, link to our facebook and twitter accounts, and most importantly our blog. This particular blog will be used to disseminate information regarding volunteer opportunities, updates for NPMSA, summary of events and meetings, along with any other news worthy information regarding the nonprofit sector.
Please remember to send ALL blog information to AHSA.UCF@gmail.com with a subject heading sam blog.
We covered a lot of new material at the meeting and I am now going to take the time to talk about each.
·         First, I’d like to take a moment to welcome Wayne Smith as our new Vice President. If anyone can get the job done, he’s the man to do it.
·         Some other new business that was discussed at the meeting is partaking as an SGA organization, in Relay for Life. Relay For Life is a fundraising event that benefits the American Cancer Society. It gives the Orlando community a chance to raise awareness, whether it is to rejoice with those who have won the battle agaisnt cancer, or remember the love ones lost. The event is held on April 1st at UCF Memory Mall. This is our chance to make a different in the fight against cancer! We are the NONPROFIT management student association; this is what we were meant to do: Fundraise. Let’s make this the largest donation that has ever come from the student association and put our mark on society! WE WILL GET MORE INFORMATION TO YOU AS SOON AS OUR GROUP IS FORMED. Here is the link to the website http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=29601&pg=entry and in the meantime, feel free to view the event page and become more familiar with it. Any fundraising suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.
·         The club expo takes place next Wednesday January, 26th from 12-2. If you have signed up please plan on attending. Becky will send you more information on this expo in email.
·         Dr. Krick had mentions interning opportunities, some starting ASAP. Here is the link http://www.cohpa.ucf.edu/pubadm/internships_connections.shtml that will bring you to the intern list. Even if you are not interested in interning the semester, these organizations ALL need volunteers and would love the help!
Here are some of the volunteer opportunities that were mentioned today:
·         Mending hearts Charities on January 27th
·         Habitat for Humanity Builds on February 12th
·         Coalition for the Homeless on February 19th
·         www.niceserve.org  through Summit Church (app coming soon)
·         Race, love, wish through Chi Omega which is a $20 fee (see Becky)
·          Orlando VA Welcome Home event on April 19th

We will update regarding the committees as soon as they are segmented. Reminders please add us on FB and twitter and EMAIL SAM PICTURESSSSSS! Also, she needs help putting together the display board so anyone who is artistic, please contact her.
We look forward to another great semester and will continue to grow NPMSA to its full potential.
